if you are interested in Skippy.
I will connect you with his current owner.
I'm not putting his phone or email address here, because it will get
found by bots and then he will get a ton of robocalls and spam emails
due to having contact info published on a web site (I already deal with
this, and hope to help them avoid that!).
First Email from Owner describing Skippy:
We’ve decided that we need to find someone who’s looking for an adult
Beagle to adopt. We got him from as a puppy you five years ago - April
2, 2019.
If you know of someone, preferably in Minnesota or northern Iowa, please
let them know. He’s neutered, house-broken, up to date with
vaccinations, and is healthy
in every way.
He’s accustomed to being outside as much as he wants, but sleeps in his
crate at night. He lives with us in the house, and has free run inside
and out. He should have a family with kids who love to run and play, but
can be lazy if left to do so.
He loves, loves, loves to chase rabbits! We no longer have any, as he
has killed them or run them off. He’s not excited about shooting,
though, so if someone wants to hunt with him, they’d have to work on
that.
Here’s a recent photo. He’s long and tall for the breed - around 31
pounds in weight (April 11, 2024).
2nd Email:
Thank you for helping us out. Skippy is house trained and spends his
time indoors unless he wants to go out. I’d say he spends about 75% of
daylight hours in the house.
Skippy was neutered at 5 months.
I don’t know how he is with small children as he hasn’t been around
them.
That being said he is exactly the kind of dog I asked you to pick for
me, laid back!
As for other dogs he gets along fine with my boys’ dogs, a bit on the
timid side away from home. One of our terriers is now 5 months old and
did get reprimanded without being hurt for being overly eager to play.
We do not have a fenced yard so he has the opportunity to travel. He
doesn’t go far, just to the line fence, the road and dredge ditch on 160
acres.
I have an appointment for him on April 11th to get his vaccinations
which is everything except rabies, which is good for two more years. We
do Lyme and leptospirosis along with DHPP and bordatella. He gets
Iverheart Max each month for heartworm, and topical flea & tick medicine
as needed. I am going see what my veterinarian thinks about getting his
teeth cleaned.
Skippy’s faults, could use more work on his commands but that’s our
fault. He walks well on a retractable leash but doesn’t do well with a
short leash. If he is hunting nothing will distract him from hunting, he
acts like a beagle. He will beg at the counter when we are making food
but he does get carrots and bread croutons when we are making salads. In
his travels who knows what he eats and will get an upset tummy, very
noisy. He gets 1/3 pkg of Purina Fortiflora on his morning meal. It
seems to help.
Skippy is a very dedicated rabbit hunter. He will chase, catch and kill
rabbits. We have no rabbits left in our grove any more so he is looking
farther than he should. We also don’t have deer that come to eat shrubs
and flowers. I think it’s just the presence of dogs that keeps them
away.
Skippy is a very loving dog and will do well with anyone who loves dogs
and has a fenced yard. If my terriers were bigger, they are Shorty Jack
Russell Terriers, I wouldn’t be so afraid for their safety when they
leave home. We have had sightings of Bald Eagles hovering over our yard
and know they wouldn’t be safe in the open.
